Our History Subject Leader is Miss Abigail Gomm
Intent:
Crawley Ridge Junior School is committed to providing a high-quality educational experience for all pupils. Our intent is to:
- Increase and develop children’s historical skills, knowledge and attitudes.
- Increase children’s understanding of the present in the context of the past.
- Develop an interest in the past, arousing curiosity and motivation to learn.
- Develop a sense of identity through learning about the past.
Implementation:
The Key Stage 2 History National Curriculum guides the Crawley Ridge history curriculum.
Whilst the National Curriculum forms the foundation of our curriculum, we aim to enhance this through visits, visitors and theme days in order to provide first-hand experiences for the children to support and develop their learning.
Skills progression is developed through the key concepts of: similarities and differences, vocabulary, chronology, significant individuals, local history, continuity and change, cause and consequences, historical questions, recording and historical enquiry.
Historical knowledge is developed through the cross-unit threads of settlement, culture and beliefs and chronology.
History is taught in topic led units of study as well as through trips, assemblies, visitor events and theme days.
Impact:
- Children will know more, remember more and understand more about history.
- Children will develop as historians through their knowledge and understanding of historical similarities and differences, vocabulary, chronology, significant individuals, local history, continuity and change, cause and consequences, historical questions, recording and historical enquiry.
- The large majority of children will achieve age related expectations in History.
- As historians’ children will learn lessons from history to influence the decisions they make in their lives in the future.
